The use of marijuana has proved to cause adverse effects to their health. However, marijuana is also used in the medical industry by medical practitioners to make medicine. This paper will discuss why marijuana should not be legalized and even the positive and negative effects of marijuana.
Marijuana also affects brain development. When people begin using marijuana as teenagers, the drug may impair thinking, memory, and learning functions and affect how the brain builds connections between the areas necessary for these functions. Researchers are still studying how long marijuana’s effects last and whether some changes may be permanent. Marijuana affects their brains, and they end up failing i9n their examinations. Some of them even drop out of school. When these teenagers grow up, they cannot be an excellent example to the young ones in the society. It is a disgrace, wastage of young brains that could have helped the community to solve many problems in the world today. A study from New Zealand conducted in part by researchers at Duke University showed that people who started smoking marijuana heavily in their teens and had an ongoing marijuana use disorder lost 8 IQ points between ages 13 and 38.
Weed is addictive. Many people who use marijuana long term and are trying to quit report mild withdrawal symptoms that make quitting difficult. These include grouchiness, sleeplessness, decreased appetite, anxiety, and cravings. It means that it is tough for somebody to quit marijuana unless the person is taken for rehabilitation. Unfortunately, most of the people do not have enough money to make the affected people for rehab. So, the people who can save themselves are people who have money.
Marijuana causes cancer. Since marijuana is typically smoked, and decades of intense research have shown that tobacco cigarette smoking is a leading cause of lung cancer (Hecht, 1999). The smoke gets into the lungs, sticks there, and harming the lungs is cancer in return.
Use in the medical industry. Marijuana is used to manufacture drugs. For instance, recent animal studies have shown that marijuana extracts may help kill specific cancer cells and reduce the size of others. Evidence from one cell culture study with rodents suggests that purified extracts from whole-plant marijuana can slow the growth of cancer cells from one of the most severe types of brain tumors.
It is crystal clear that marijuana has a lot of adverse effects compared to the positive impact. Marijuana should not be legalized at all because many people use it for recreational purposes. They take it for granted, and in return, it harms their health. I support that marijuana should only be used by the medical industry to make medicines.
